Elaine and I took a trip to Adelaide, South Australia from July 3–8, 2022. This was my chance to visit the final Australian capital city and check it off my list. We spent most of our time in the city, since we didn‘t have a car. The only exception was a quick visit to the German town of Hahndorf.
Our accommodation was 5 nights at the Pullman Hotel in Hindmarsh Square. We were accommodated in a twin double room with a window view of the city. To be honest I didn’t set up a city view from the hotel. I have no excuses, it was a combination of not feeling the emotion and laziness. 🙁 What strikes me as a obstacle for shooting through windows is the cleanliness from the far side. That part is essentially out of my control.
For our stay including breakfast every day (5) it amounted to nearly $1200. To me this felt expensive for what we received. This hits the record for the most I have ever spent on accommodation in 1 sitting. Mind you, this place is rated 5 star. However; I can not say it was my favourite place to stay – That trophy is held by Grande Centre Point, Terminal 21 in Bangkok, Thailand. 2019. Best hotel stay for Australia, is Radisson Blu, Pitt Street, Sydney.
The location of the hotel was excellent for walking distance to Randall Street Mall. – 2 minutes. Walking to China town and the Farmers market was about 2km and about 25 minutes worth of walking.
The purpose of this trip was to get away from Darwin. So Elaine and I focused on exploring the city via foot and looking for eateries. For the walking part, we became quite familiar with the area around Randall Mall, China town and the University and Garden Street.
The only other time we left the CBD area was to use a bus to travel to the town of Hahndorf. Hahndorf is a contemporary village proud of its German heritage that was about 30 minutes drive from Adelaide. On the street you will find smallgoods outlets, bakeries, pubs, restaurants and cafes.
Elaine really enjoyed the small home decoration area, and we both enjoyed a German style hotdog for lunch.
